# Genesis Heroes

Genesis Heroes are **ERC-721 NFTs** on the Abstract Mainnet and serve as the **main playable characters** in Onchain Heroes.

* Required to participate in the game.
* All Heroes are minted with the same base stats; **rarity is cosmetic only**.
* Heroes start **unrevealed** and are revealed after being sent on an adventure.&#x20;

## Hero Stats

A Hero’s level directly affects their stats. As they level up, their base stats increase, leading to better rewards and unlocking new content.

There are two main stats that scale with level: **ATK** and **DEF**.

#### ATK (Attack)

**ATK** increases a Hero’s **reward yield**. Higher ATK means more **$HERO** earned and better chances of item drops. You can increase ATK by leveling up and equipping weapons.

#### DEF (Defense)

**DEF** affects a Hero’s chance of surviving Boss Battles. Higher DEF lowers Death Risk, allowing them to take on harder zones and return with better rewards.

## Equipping Gear&#x20;

Players can improve their Hero's stats by equipping gear.&#x20;

Gear falls into two categories:

* **Weapons** – Impact reward yield by increasing **ATK.**
* **Armor** – Boosts survivability (DEF) and is required to access deeper zones.
